The cemetery got the status of a museum in 1991, November 25. Restoration and modernization is being held on its territory regularly now. One of the most interesting sculptural collections in Europe is situated just here. These scuptures are either masterpieces or they could also decorate any park. They tell the visitors about the buried people by means of symbols and allegories.
The main alley here is the place where prominent people are buried: Ivan Franko, the writer, poet and playwright; Solomiya Krushelnytska, a well-known opera singer; Markiyan Shashkevych, the founder of new Ukrainian literature in Galicia and other famous figures in local history and culture.
The museum staff is working over new interesting projects. One can order here not only a traditional excursion around the cemetery, but also one can order a night walking tour around the cemetery. There is the other excursion — by electric car around the museum territory. The film "To follow the pathes of Lviv necropolis" is proposed to the visitors, too.
