The Museum of Roman Shukhevych

The museum dedicated to the general-khorunzhy of Ukrainian Insurgent Army Roman Shukhevych was founded 23 October in 2001 as a part of Lviv Museum of History. The exposition is located in a two-storey building which used to be the last headquarter of the insurgents' leader and where he met his death.
Opposite the museum building, there's a monument to Roman Shukhevych (placed in 1991).
Roman Shukhevych was born in Lviv, 30 June, 1907. Having spent his childhood in a small town of Krakivtsi, he went on to study in the branch of Lviv Academic Preparatory School, from where he entered Lviv Polytechnick Academy; he also received musical education as a piano player at the academy of music. During his life, he had always taken an active part in social and political organizations, such as: 'Plast' scouts, Ukrainian Military Organization, Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (was imprisoned for 2 years, in connection with OUN); he also became one of the political leaders of Carpathian Ukraine. In May, 1943, R. Shukhevych became the head of the command Headquarters of OUN and the general of UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army), where he got his famous pseudonym — Taras Chuprynka. Shukhevych died 5 March in 1950.
The ground floor in the museum is the place where ehxibits put you through the life of a famous Ukrainian military leader, from the childhood to the death. There you can also find out a lot about the lives of his family members, like the grandfather Volodymyr, who was a famous ethnographist and the author of the five-volume work 'Hutsulshchyna', and the father Joseph, a country commissioner in ZUNR (West Ukrainian People's Republic).
There's also the authbiography of R. Shuykhevych and archives from the period of his studies. The remarkable places might be also information stands dedicated to Shukhevych's years in 'Plast', OUN and UPA.
On the first floor there is a room with authentic furniture (table with chairs, armchair) from Shukhevych's times, kryivka (a bunker hidden in the walls) and the real stairs where the leader of UPA was killed.

Go from the centre of Lviv to Yaniv cemetery (T. Shevchenko street). Turn left in Levandivska street and go untill the crossroads, where turn right in Shyroka street. Go straight on untill Roksolyany street and follow it 260 m farther. Then, turn left in Bilohorshcha street and go straight on again. The museum is located right on the road, and you can see a sign in the yard there.
