National Museum of Metrology and Measurement Equipment
as a part of the State Enterprise of "Lviv scientific-industrial center
of standardization, metrology and certification".

Description:
Among the numerous museums of Lviv city, there is one that has no analogues in Ukraine and in the whole territory of the former USSR. This is the National Museum of Metrology and Measurement Equipment. It was created on a voluntary basis as a part of the State Enterprise “Lvivstandartmetrologiya”. Its exposition occupies three halls on the ground floor of the organization building.

The unique museum's collection pictures the development of metrology from the end of the XIX century to the present days, and the historical materials tell about the origin of various types of measurements from their appearance up to this day. The exposition is systematically supplemented by new exhibits and numbers at present approximately 350 measurement devices.

The museum exposition is laid out by types of measurements and is rich in measurement devices of the previous years, manufactured both in this country and abroad.



Among unique devices one can't but mention glass weights 1 kg, 1 pound, 200, 100, 50, 10 and 1 gr of the first grade (1915, Russia); the arm weights with weigh boundary 55 kg (1884); metal alcohol gauge with the range of measuring 20-90 units (1915, Russia); the first grade measure devices (1930, Germany); ampere-voltmeter (1891, USA); naval chronometer (1960, USSR); pressure gauge (1850, USA).



More than 18 thousand people and more than 30 foreign delegations visited the museum during the whole period of its existence. The visit to the museum can be a valuable assistance in the process of study of the course in standardization and metrology, envisaged by the curriculum of many higher educational establishments and specialised secondary schools, what is certified by the numerous entries in the museum guest book.

Free of charge.
