Andriy Kotska (1911-1987), the prominent artist, lived and worked in this house since 1945. The materials of the biography section tell about the artist's life and creative work. At his studio portraits and landscapes of after war period are represented.
Museum contains paintings, graphic drawings, sculptures and works of folk art, totally — more than 5 thousand masterpieces, samples of culture of different epochs and national schools. Museum collection can be divided into several departments: West European art of XVI-beginning of XX c., Central European art of XVIII-XX c, Russian art of XVIII-XX c., Ukrainian art of XVII-XX c., collection of regional painting school.
The museum exposition represents personal things of the prominent Transcarpathian artist, documents, his works of art. The museum funds number about 2000 exhibits and paintings, graphic works and a great amount of the artist's documents are among them.
One of the first Ukrainian open-door museums. Planning of museum exposition reflects the geographical map of Transcarpathia. The dwellings and homesteads are situated along West-East axis, and represent multiethnicity of Transcarpathia (Lemkys, Boykos, Hutsuls, Hungarians, Romanians).
Inside one can find original agricultural tools, looms, anvils and hammers, musical instruments, kitchen utensils, embroidered and bedecked clothes, folk paintings and woodwork of all types, etc.
Museum is located in the building of Uzhgorod Castle of 13th-17th centuries — one of the oldest and most valuable architectural monuments of Transcarpathian region. The numismatic collection, manuscripts, furniture of 18th-19th centuries, ancient armament are worth attention.
Museum was founded in 1946 at the biological faculty of Uzhgorod university. Museum's expositions and funds have been supplemented during expeditions. Now museum's expositions contain about 5 thousand exhibits - insects, fish, birds and mammals.
