Ivan Olbracht is a well-known Czech writer. He lived in Kolochava in 30s years of XX c. He is the author of the novel 'Nykola Shuhay-highwayman', written in 1933. The leitmotif of the novel is the fate of Mykola Shuhay, the last of Opryshky (participants of local liberation movement) movement.
In 1933-1934 Ivan Olbracht together with Vladyslav Vanchura, a film producer, shooted a film 'Mariyka-unfaithful' in Kolochava. The film fully depicted the every day life of local people — highlanders (verkhovyntsi), Jews and Czech. Thanks to the authors's skills, the film became a masterpiece of Czech cinematography. As far as literature is concerned, the novel 'Nykola Shuhay-highwayman' and other literary works of I. Olbracht became the classics in Czech culture. The writer has performed great services for Kolochava and Rus Podkarpatska by the fact that a big attention of pre-war society was attracted to the region.
There is a monument to Ivan Olbracht in Kolochava, nearby the school, where the museum is located.
