The Museum of Hutsul Traditional Symbols

Description:

The museum was opened in 2012 as a part of the Carpathian National Park.

The exhibits are placed in three rooms of Hutsul grazhda (traditional wooden house). You can see there a variety of authentic things: everyday items, clothing, regalia, etc. All of them somehow represent wide range of Hutsul ethnical symbols in pictures, embroidery or carvings.

You can have a look at collections of authentic Hutsul kitchen utensils (plates, bowls, jars, mugs, barrels), furniture (carved chests, tables and a crib), working equipment (yokes, cow bells, baskets, etc.), wheels, a loom, spindles, snowshoes and musical instruments (trembitas — a type of an alpine horn, dulcimers), etc.

The museum collection contains also authentic woven bags, rugs, embroidery and Hutsul clothing (embroidered shirts, keptars — men's sleeveless jackets, hats, kraykas — Hutsul belts, traditional headscarfs).

The next thing that could draw your attention there is churynha a big round stone which is associated with origin of pysanka, a painted egg that symbolises Easter holidays in Ukraine.

Workshops on making cheese are held in the museum; photoshooting in traditional Hutsul clothing is available. The museum also hosts festive events and conferences.

You can also buy souvenirs at the store.
