The Museum of the Film
«SHADOWS OF FORGOTTEN ANCESTORS»
Description:
The museum exposition was founded in 2001 by Marichka Khimchychka, whose parents lived in that house.
Serhiy Paradzhanov, a remarkable film director, lived in this house during the period of shooting his famous film 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors', the adaptation of a novel by Mykhaylo Kotsiubynsky. That movie made him internationally acclaimed and got to the top 20 best films of all time. Some members of the film crew also stayed in that house: camera operator Yuriy Illienko, production designer Heorhiy Yakutovych, actors Ivan Mykolaichuk and Larysa Kadochnykova, etc.
Serhiy Paradzhanov was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Jan 9, 1924 in a jeweller's family. Serhiy didn't choose his father's profession, and that worsened their relationship for a long time. During his life, he tried doing different jobs: studied in the Institute of Railway Transport, worked as a scenic designer; he also enrolled the vocal department of the music academy - firstly in Tbilisi and then in Moscow, where he at the same time started studying at the directing department. The great part of Paradzhanov's artistic life is strongly connected with Ukraine and its culture.
The exhibition consists of items connected with the film 'Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors'. The remarkable one is a traditional wedding outwear called 'guglia', which was worn by the main character (played by Ivan Mykolaichuk). The walls are decorated with photographs from the film. There are also such kinds of exhibits as authentic Hutsul clothing and traditional everyday items.
