The museum was founded in 1985 by the efforts of Anatoliy and Natalya Pokotiuk. In 1990 it became a department of Lviv National museum, and since 1995 the museum is a department of Lviv museum of the history of religion.
The museum contains unique art collections and various sacral items.
The museum exposition is displayed in ten rooms. The most interesting sections are: 'Man and Universe', 'Holy Ukraine', 'What's Verity?', 'Under the Cover of St. Virgin', 'Kyiv — Mohyla Academy', etc.
The museum stocks contain historacal documents of ХVII–XIX с.; rare materials about Viktor Matiuk, a famous Ukrainian composer; materials about the history of the local churches; ceramics of Vasyl Shostopalts, a famous local master of XIX с.; samples of unique embroidery; household utensils of XIX–ХХ с.
In the museum exposition there are also sacramental relics from Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem, from Zarvanytsa, Pochaiv and other places of St. Virgin Appearance.
