Museum of Ethnography and Ecology of Carpathian Region

Description:
The museum researches ethnography, history and development of folk crafts in the region.

The first researches here were held in the II half of XIX c. Various exhibitions of industry and ethography played an important part in the popularization of the region. The exhibition in Kolomyja of 1880 was of great importance. Folk masters presented their works here for the first time.

In early XX c. the first private collection was formed in Yaremche. It numbered more than 700 exhibits — articles of art and things of every day life of Hutsuls. It became the base of the first museum in the region. In 1963 the museum of regional ethnography was opened in Yaremche.

The modern original building of the museum was erected in 1967. Architect V. Stasiv was the author of the project. In 2007 the museum got its modern name — Museum of Ethnography and Ecology of Carpathian Region.
