Banská Bystrica District

Banská Bystrica district (Slovak: Okres Banská Bystrica) is one of the 13 districts of Banska Bystrica region in Slovakia. It has an area of 809.4 km², its total population is more than 110,000 people and the population density is 137.12 inhabitants per km². The district capital is Banská Bystrica city, which is the only urban-type settlement among more than 40 villages located in the district. Until 1918 the district was a part of the county of Zvolen within the Kingdom of Hungary.
