Banská Štiavnica District

Banska Shtyavnitsa district (Slovak: Okres Banská Štiavnica) is one of 13 districts of Banska Bystrica region in Slovakia. The total area is 292.3 km², total population is more than 16,000 people and the population density — 56.92 inhabitants per km². The district capital is Banská Štiavnica town, which is the only urban-type settlement among 14 villages located in the district. Until 1918 most of the present-day district area belonged to the country of Hont (Kingdom of Hungary). The exceptions were only such settlements as Močiar and Podhorie in the north (belonged to Tekhov region, Kingdom of Hungary) and Kozelník village in the east (belonged to Zvolen county).
