Trenčín Region

Trenčín Region is located in Western Slovakia. It boarders with Zilina Region in the Northeast, Banska Bystrica Region in the Southeast, Nitra Region in the South, Trnava Region in the Southwest and Czech Republic in the West.

Ethnic composition of Trenčín Region consists mainly of Slovaks (97,3%). Czechs occupy the biggest part among all national minorities. It comes to over 1%. Among religious communities Roman Catholics occupy 71,9%, Lutherans — 9,6%.

Geographically Trenčín Region consists of 9 districts. Trenčín city with the population of around 58,000 people is the administrative centre of the region.

6 mountain massifs come through the territory of the region: Small Carpathians in the Southwest, Javorníky in the North, Strážovské Vrchy in the central part of the region, Považský Inovec in the South, Utachnyk in the Southeast and Ždiar Mountains in the eastern part of the region. Mountain foothills of Malá Fatra mountains are also located in the eastern part of Trenčín Region. The biggest rivers of the region are Vah (in the West of the region) and Nitra (in the Southeas of the region).
