VIKTOR MATIUK Room-Museum

Description:
The room-museum is situated on the ground floor of Sokal art school for children named after V. Matiuk. It was founded on the initiative of Olga Kusen, the teacher, and Yaroslav Stefanyshyn, the school manager, in 2006. It is a memory museum. Its exposition numbers 45 exhibits.

The museum display informs about the life and creative work of Viktor Matiuk (18.02.1852-08.04.1912). V. Matiuk is a composer, a music theorist, a Catholic priest. In 1879 he graduated from Lviv theological seminary. As a composer, he is a continuer of Przemysl music school traditions. Together with M. Shashkevych, he is an author of the popular musical work 'Vesnivka' (Spring Song). S. Krushelnytska and O. Myshuha, the leading Ukrainian singers, used to sing it.

The composer's piano of 1884, made in Vienna, is a rarity in the museum exposition. There are also V. Matiuk personal things with the family photo album in the museum. The museum documents and materials are used in scientific researches.
