Ivan Vahylevych Museum

Description:
The museum was opened in 1995. Its exposition is placed in the house which belonged to the family of Ivan Vahylevych, a prominent writer, ethnographer and teacher, a member of "Ruthenian trinity" society that published "Rusalka Dnistrova" almanac in 1837.
There are more than one thousand exhibits in five rooms. Mainly, they are printed editions and documents given to the museum by Lviv Scientific Library named after V. Stefanyk. The visitor can also enjoy household utensils and pottery, old clothes, footwear, used by I. Vahylevych family and local country people. The family photos are represented at separate stand. There are "Rusalka Dnistrova" editions and other books in the museum exposition. In separate room there are photos of local people who lived here and struggled for freedom of Ukraine.

Ivan Vahylevych (02.09.1811 — 10.05.1866) — a Ukrainian poet, specialist in literature, ethnographer, translator, archivist. He was born in the priest's family. He studied at Buchach primary school; in 1829 he graduated from a secondary school in Stanislav. In 1830—1839 he studied at Lviv theological college. Since 1833 he is a member of "Ruthenian trinity" society. Together with J. Holovatsky and M. Shashkevych he published "Rusalka Dnistrova" almanac in 1837. In the period 1851-1862 he worked in Ossolinski museum, edition "Gazeta Lwówska", Lviv city archives. More than 1 200 documents of Lviv and Galicia history he prepared for publication.

In 1830s he published some poems in Ukrainian. He was the first to attemp to classify genres of Ukrainian folk songs creation. He was the first to translate into Ukrainian "The Tale of Igor's Campaign" (1836). He worked also as a linguist and lexicographer, published manuals "A Grammar of Ruthenian language in Galicia" (1845) and "Primary Rules of Ruthenian Grammar" (1846).

By public transport
Go by train to Ivano-Frankivsk or Broshniv-Osada village (station Rozhnyativ), then — by bus.

By car
From Ivano-Frankivsk or Stryj by route H-10 to Krehovychi village, in the village turn to Rozhnyativ following the sign, later go along Perehinske village to Yasen. The museum ia located at the central village street.
