Dolný Kubín District

Dolný Kubín district (Slovak: Okres Dolný Kubín) is one of 11 districts in Žilina region (Slovakia). Total area is 490.3 km², the population is more than 39,000 people, the population density is 80.41 inhabitants per km². The district capital is Dolný Kubín town which is the only urban-type settlement among 20 villages in the district. In the central part of the district there lies the valley of Orava river surrounded by mountain ranges: Little Fatra (Malá Fatra) and Great Fatra (Veľká Fatra) from the west and Orava Magura (Oravská Magura) from the east. Till 1918 the district was a part of the country of Árva (Kingdom of Hungary), except of a small area around Kraľovany village which belonged to Liptov (Liptó) administrative country.
