Trnava Region

Trnava Region is located in Western Slovakia. It boarders with Czech Republic in the North, Trenčin Region in the Northeast, Nitra Region in the East, Hungary in the South, Bratislava Region and Austria in the West.

Ethnic composition of Trnava Region consists of Slovaks (over 73,9%), Hungarians (23,7%,) Czechs (1%). Among religious communities there are: Roman Catholics (73,8%), Lutherans (4,4%) and Reformates (2,1%).

Geographically Trnava Region consists of 7 districts. Trnava city with the population of over 68,000 people is the administrative centre of the region.

Most of the territory of Trnava Region lies within Danubian lowland. The southern part of the region is located in river catchment areas of Vah, Little Danube and Danube rivers. Only from the North lowlands smoothly change into highland relief and then — into mountains. Mountain ranges of Small Carpathians extend in the north of Trnava Region from southwest to northeast. Their highest peak — Zaruby mountain (768 m) — is located here. Further to the north White Carpathians stretch in the direction from west to east. Zahorska lowland lies to the east from this mountain massif.
