Georgaphically Prešov Region is divided into 13 districts. Prešov city with the population of over 91,000 people is the administrative centre of the region.

Prešov Region occupies a number of geohraphical areas: western part of the Eastern Carpathians, parts of Low and Western Beskids, Latvian lowlands and Central Slovak Carpathians. The part of the region — to the East from Ciroka river — has the band structure typical for Eastern Carpathians: longitudinal mountain ridges change lower hollows. From the South to the North we can find here: volcanic Vyhorlat (the highest peak — 1076 m) with the foothill, separated from the Middle Beskid (the highest peak — 1221 m) by the Inner Carpathian Valley along Ciroka and Ublya rivers. Low Beskids occupy the biggest part of Prešov Region (the highest peak — 1002 m). These mountains are the lowest part of Carpathian mountainous country (in particular Ondavske lowland). The extension of Western Beskids — Cherhiv mountains (the highest peak — 1157 m) — lies to the West from the wide valley Topola and Bardejov hollow. Salt (Prešov) volcanic mountains (the highest peak — 1092 m) and wide Košice-Prešov hollow (along Hornád and Torysa rivers) occupy the southwest of Prešov Region. Massifs Branisko and Slovak Ore Mountains together with hollows of Central Slovak Carpathians stretch further to the West. Western part of Potiska (Eastern Slovak) lowland occupies southeastern part of Prešov Region. A number of mountain passes along Torysa-Poprad — Tylych mountain pass (688 m), Duklia mountain pass (502 m), Lupkiv mountain pass (651 m) and others — provide the connection with the northern part of the Carpathians.
