The museum was opened in 2007 in a room of Irshava Regional Youth Centre. The total amount of exhibits there is over 850 items. 26 informational stands display historical objects from different periods of the local history. Remarkable collections are:

• stone axes of the Neolithic Age;
• money bills from around the region (1900-1945);
• glass bottles (middle 19th — early 20th centuries);
• kerosene lamps (late 19th —early 20th centuries), and many more.

There are personal stands for local sites, such as Borzhava narrow gauge railway or Charming Land National Park.

There are also such ethnographic exhibits as traditional local costumes and footwear, a loom, everyday items from the late 20th century.

In March 2014 some information was updated, and some original documents, postcards and newspapers from the period of Carpathian Ukraine (1939) were added to the exposition. In the newer part of the museum you can also see historical postage stamps and riflemen's cap badges from the region around.

In 2015 military stands were installed:

• 'Euromaidan. 94 Days of Honour'; authentic items on display there: a self-made body armour and a metal bar, a helmet, a protective shield of the Transcarpathian sotnia of self-defence (the military unit), ribbons, IDs of Maidan activists, etc;
• 'ATO' (anti-terrorist operation) with flags signed by the soldiers, a body armour shoot through and weapon used in real battles.

By public transport
Go by train of Uzhgorod direction to Mukachevo station, then take a bus to the centre of Irshava.
Go by bus from Lviv, Stryj, Lutsk, Uzhgorod, Mukachevo or Rakhiv. The museum is located in the centre of the town.
