The museum has its own history.

In 1964 the exhibition of Ferents Horvat collection was opened in a little room of local school building. Since 1930 he had been collecting the archaeological monuments found during the railway construction. They were agricultural implements of the ancient man, fragments of ceramics, bronze things, etc. The numismatic collection which numbered 224 coins attracted a special attention.
The museum changed its location several times. In 1989 it was closed. Its exposion was practically lost.
The present museum exposition was opened in 2002. It is located now in the oldest building (1629) in Berehove — the former palace of count Habor Betlen.

Now the museum exposition numbers more than 2 thousand exhibits. Local inhabitans and Ivan Shepa's (the present museum manager) activities greatly contributed to museum collections.
The exposition is placed chronologically.
The Roman period exhibits excite the special interest and among them there is the glazing oven fragment for ceramics.
There are also a lot of relics from Ferents Rakotsi II time. The collection with the materials about I World War houses a considerable number of exhibits.

The ethnographic hall impresses with the variety of its exhibits — jugs, mugs, wooden and stone agricultural implements, etc. The museum collection is supplemented by Ivan Shepa, the museum manager, who collects ancient cast-iron ovens made at local factories.

The separate exposition is dedicated to widely-known Hungarian opera singer Shari Fedak, born in Berehove.
Coins and paper money collection is of great interest for the visitors. One of the museum halls is decorated with Yozhef Harani pictures, presented to the museum by the artist.
