Museum of Political Prisoners

Description:
It is the largest museum of political prisoners in Ukraine. It was opened and sanctified in 1996, October 14. The regional museum of ethnography, the Institute of National revival and the local Society of political prisoners and persons subjected to repressions were the museum's founders.

The materials of museum expositions are placed in 28 cells of the former prison. They reveal the local history of liberation movement.

Section 'Repressions in 1939-1941' is situated in cell #1, where one can see the authentic door from that period. The documents about OUN-UIA activities in the region and materials dedicated to V. Chornovol and L. Kostenko are of great interest.

In museum exposition the model of concentration camps, political prisoners' clothes and personal things and memorial room of Stepan Bandera impress the visitors greatly. The punishment cell and the cell for prisoners sentenced to death do the same.

There is the model of true 'kryivka' (place of concealment) and the collection of little models — the work of Illarion Pylypets, the local master. This part of the exhibition atrracts the visitors' attention greatly.

The separate section is dedicated to the priests subjected to repressions with the stand about J. Slipy.
