Kvitka Cisyk Museum

Description:
It's the only museum in the world dedicated to Kvitka Cisyk. Opened 2 April 2011 in the building of school # 54. The street where the school is placed (connecting Khvyliovy and A. Lincoln streets) is also named after Kvitka Cisyk.

The museum exposition is placed on the ground floor in the school. You can see there historical documents and photographs connected with private life and literary work of an outstanding Ukrainian poet. There are also some personal possessions belonged to Kvitka Cisyk, such as perfumes, a jewel box, gloves and boots. The recordings of Kvitka Cisyk's unique voice, which you'll hear during the tour, create a sort of magical atmosphere around.

Background information:
Kvitka Cisyk (04.04.1953 — 29.03.1998) was an American singer (soprano) of Ukrainian origin. She became a popular ads jingle performer, an opera and jazz singer. Her song 'You Light Up My Life', performed for a film with the same title, won an Oscar and Golden Globe in 1978 (best soundtrack). In Ukraine she became well-known as a performer of folk and pop songs. Her first Ukrainian-speaking CD 'Kvitka' or 'Songs of Ukraine' was released in 1980, the next one 'Two colors' (Ukr. 'Dva Koliory') — in 1989. The performer explained that both of those were not business projects, but the music presents to all Ukrainian people around the world, 'the music for the soul' which keeps memories about the Motherland. The recordings gathered a variety of music awards in Canada and were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album (1990).
After Ukraine became independent, Kvitka Cisyk started dreaming to make a tour of Ukraine and to release her third Ukrainian album of lullabies. But, sadly, it wasn't meant to happen as the poet passed away before her time.
