Ethnography and History Museum "Berehynia"

Description:
The museum was founded in 1987 on the initiative of Tamara Husar, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature in the Burshtyn power economy college. Since 1992 the museum exposition is placed in the building of the college hostel. Today's museum exxposition was opened in 2001.
The museum collection numbers more than 1500 exhibits — various unique items, gathered by local people. All these exhibits serve as a guard of Opillya history and culture. Opillya ethnic culture is not investigated enough, that's why the museum exposition is now of great importance.

The museum exposition consists of four large sections:

  • historical,
  • embroidery,
  • "Оpillya dwelling",
  • prominent personalities.

The first section represents mainly archaeological exhibits. There is an information about the past of the region and one can see ancient articles (stone axes, teeth of mammoth, etc).
The second section is dedicated to Opillya embroidery. The collection numbers about 250 towels, 160 shirts and blouses, a lot of women's dresses. It will be interesting for visitors to have a look at unique photo gallery — local girls in folk clothes, typical for Opillya.
"Оpillya dwelling" section is of special interest. One can feel himself as a guest in Opillya dwelling that consisted of a pantry and a living-room. The former pantry represents now a collection of household articles. In the former living-room there is an old oven with a collection of wooden items, a trunk with a collection of shawls and bed-sheets, and an Opillya bed — an adornment of the house.
The fourth section represents documents about different periods of invasions: from attacks of Tatars and Turks to events of I and II World Wars. The icon collection is of great interest, too.

Since 2000 the museum carries out the research work about Opillya clothes. This process proves the statement that Opillya clothes is a unique phenomenon in Ukrainian culture.
