Sucha County

Sucha County (Pol. powiat suski) is one of 19 land counties of Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It covers an area of 685.8 km² with the population of over 82,000 people, the population density is 119.4 p/km². The county's administrative centre is Sucha Beskidzka. Sucha County came into being on January 1, 1999 as a result of an administrative reform.

The biggest part of its territory is situated in the mountain terrain. Here from the north-west to the south-east the mountain ranges of Beskidy stretch: Little Beskids (the highest peak is Leskowiec Mountain, 918 m above sea level, and Lamana Scala Mountain, 929 m above sea level), Maków Beskids (its highest peak is Koskowa Góra, 866 m above sea level) and Beskid Żywiecki (its highest point is Babia Gora, 1,725 m above sea level). Besides, on the territory of Sucha County there are also the peaks with the height of over 1,000 m above sea level: Polica (1,369 m), Jalowiec (1,111 m), Czerniawa Sucha (1,062 m) and Lachów Groń (1,045 m). Almost all of the territory of Sucha County lies within the catchment area of Skawa, except for Hucisko village (in the western part) and Lentownia village (in the eastern part). Forests cover 46.4% of the county, it's a high rate as for Poland.

One of the most popular national parks of the south-eastern Poland, the Babiogorski National Park, is situated on the territory of the county. The National Park extends to the south and on the territory of Slovakia is called "Horna Orawa".
